What is 436 Stainless Steel Coil?
Stainless steel grade 436 is a ferritic chromium steel known for its corrosion and heat resistance properties. Unlike other stainless steel grades, it can be polished to resemble chromium plate, offering a visually appealing finish. Both in its annealed and cold-rolled states, this material exhibits magnetic properties. Notably, grade 436 has demonstrated superior resistance to ridging or roping defects compared to type 430 stainless steel.
Widely utilized in the automotive industry, particularly for automobile trim and exhaust pipes, type 436 stainless steel is a variant of type 434. By incorporating molybdenum (0.75%~1.25%) into type 430 stainless steel, we obtain type 434 with enhanced corrosion resistance. Type 436 is further refined with the addition of columbium (5C≦Nb≦0.80), earning its reputation as the Nb-version of type 434. This modification is specifically engineered to minimize issues such as "roping" or "ridging" during stretch forming processes, making it ideal for various automotive applications.

Type 436 stainless steel distinguishes itself with augmented corrosion resistance owing to the incorporation of molybdenum, surpassing the basic 430 ferritic variant. Its versatility extends to being easily drawn and formed, making it compatible with a wide range of hot-forming procedures. While slight ridging may occur during forming operations, the addition of columbium effectively mitigates this occurrence. Notably, type 436 boasts a marginally higher yield strength than 430 in its annealed state, necessitating sturdier tooling and increased power for processing.
Additionally, the density of type 436 stainless steel at 20°C is recorded at 7.80 g/cm³, contributing to its robust structural integrity and suitability for various industrial applications.
